My fascination with clay began while working and living in Haarlem, the Netherlands. My first introduction to pottery was at a night class, in the back of a little pottery retail outlet, where I learnt how to create thrown pots on a kick wheel.

Upon returning to new Zealand, I enrolled at the Auckl.and Studio of Potters. At the end of 1983 I moved to the Waikato and enrolled for night classes. I joined the committee of the Waikato Society of Potters and spent many years learning from a variety of professional potters at the Society rooms and Wintec.

I use a combination of wheel work, sculptural and slip cast work. Much of my inspiration comes from texture and colour in nature and I love experimenting with glaze to mimic the hue and depth we are surrounded by in New Zealand. I enjoy tramping for the wealth of images I return with. Sometimes you will see comedy in my work. That?s just me having some fun.

For me, working with clay is similar to photography. A photo captures the moment. A pottery piece can capture a lot more.
