Wherever art lovers go in New Zealand and talk comes round to New Zealand landscape painters, Brian Baxters name comes into the discussion. Baxter was born in Kaikoura in 1940, surrounded by dramatic land and seascapes. He was educated at Marlborough College and learnt his craft of oil painting under John Crump, Aston Greathead and Gaston de Vel.

By 1977 Baxter had decided he wanted to become a full time artist and it wasn't long before he had made hi mark on the national art scene by winning the prestigious Kelliher Art Award in 1977. The celebrated Australian painter Sir William Dargie was the judge that year.

The painting presented here is from that period of Baxters output a major work that displays Baxters wonderful ability to give a perfect perspective to the Marlborough high country that he knows and loves so well.

The perfect New Zealand Landscape for a distinguished room and highly recommended as an investment in our landscape history.
