John Horton lives at Whitford, near Howick in Auckland and is married with two grown up sons.
John trained at Worcester College of Fine Arts and became a full time artist in 1978. He has had successful regular exhibitions in Downtown Auckland, Hamilton, Warkworth and Christchurch.
John works mainly in oils, specializing in New Zealand landscapes, marine and city scenes depicted in a representational impressionistic style. He creates a realistic light effect in his work by the utilization of warm and cool colour combinations, working both in the studio and on site.
He conducts teaching workshops and demonstrations for various Auckland Art Groups and Community Colleges and is a regular tutor for Adult Classes at Edgewater College, Pakuranga, Auckland.
Commissions include both corporate and Private clients throughout New Zealand and overseas and his work has been featured in Australian publications.
Other interests include yachting, yoga, golf and gardening.
