I am the youngest of eight children and have just returned to Rotorua after spending over eight years in Tamaki Makaurau, as a professional Graphic Designer and Art Director specializing in Marketing and Branding. Technology has played an important role in my development in those fields although my inspiration has come from being a Wahine Maori brought up in Te Arawa and all that it means to participate in Mahi Toi and Hauora Wairua.
I acknowledge the knowledge received from my mother Rangiwhakatakohe (Nan) Morrison for my grounding in raranga and from my brother Te Rangitakuku Kaihoro in Kowahiwhai, Whakairo and Ta Moko. I also have a passion for painting and sculpture where I express my own creative development and exploration of whakapapa, mana wahine and whanau.
The later part of 2002 became the realization of a dream I had had for the past 4 years ? to study the art of tapping ink into skin using traditional tools. This took me to Hawai?i for 3 months where I lived and worked with traditional practitioners of Kakau. The experience broadened my horizon and kick started my confidence to go full on into Uhi Ta Moko.
Today a lot of my time is spent working within community arts arenas developing creative strategies with a view to economic self-sufficiency for creators of art and enjoy networking with participants and appreciators of art. I also enjoy sharing my knowledge with others.
