Shane Hansen is of Maori, Chinese and European descent. He has been a visualiser for the best part of 30 years. He comes from a line of painters and illustrators, his great grandfather and grandfather were accomplished water colour artists and his father a commercial artist. Shane’s creative talent has offered him successful careers in fashion design, marketing and advertising. In 2009, Shane chose to pursue his true passion and become a creator of visually pleasing and engaging art pieces. He likes to work in a 2-D format with bold blocks of colour and hard clean lines. Shane sees himself as a visualiser taking the idea in his head and translating it into something tangible.
The pine plywood is been used as each piece is made unique by the different grain patterns and layers running through it. The wood tells a story with all its imperfections–scars, knots, scratches and dents–showing a vulnerability and honesty. By overlaying a clean and crisp visual over the raw surface of the wood it gives new life and dimension, while still letting its true self show through. The raw wood finish and raw edge allows for all the layers to be visible contrasting with the clean, crisp, sharp edges of the overlaid visual.
Care instructions:
Dust the surface, in the direction of the grain, with a feather duster or soft cloth. Remove any spots with a mildly damp soft cloth, rubbing softly in the direction of the grain. Do not hang in direct sunlight.
